The only means of getting data onto the thing is via a usb smart media card reader which it appears to have the drivers for. So I can't just plug in a usb cd drive and install. I wish changing from 98 to xp was as easy as that or I'd have done it a long time ago! The IBM notepad has no drives, only USB (and pcmia) but being 98, doesn't support plug and play like xp does.

I knew of the issue when I bought the unit (I downloaded the software prior to purchase to get a feel of the functions available) but hoped the unit had been sat on a shelf for a while and would come bundled with a cd containing an older software version - no such luck! I had to go into the hardware profile and change the baud rate, and also removed and then re-installed the USB serial adapter, then re-installed the Behringer software. I'm not quite sure which one of a number of things sorted it out. I've been fiddling with settings all night and seem to have got things sorted now.

In terms of getting it up and running on this laptop, since you're not using it can you wipe it and install xp? if you haven't got it you could wipe it, install suse or something and give it a go with WINE - it's an incredibly long shot but it might work if all else fails. just because something says it's not compatible doesn't mean it won't work, often it's just that they haven't tested it, so there might be something else wrong and it could work fine on 98 but I wouldn't know what that was.
if it works you can then reinstall the bluetooth / ir bits so they take up higher com ports than the ultradrive.Īs for the other laptop, I'm not aware of the differences in how different versions of windows handle com ports but I'm guessing that might be the issue. You could try uninstalling that stuff, then install the behringer software and try again. Bluetooth especially can potentially take up quite a lot which is what I suspect has happened here. High com ports shouldn't technically be an issue, but sometimes software only looks at com ports up to a certain number.

The RS485 (RJ45) connection is no use as I'm using a laptop, which does have an RJ45, but it's not actually an RS485 port (seems to be a problem on a few laptops.ĭoes anybody have any ideas on how to get either laptop talking to this thing? The laptop in this case is an IBM Think Pad 560z. Now I'm not sure whether this is a pc config issue, or an incompatibility issue, however either way, I'm not having much luck. This time it states "COM port in loop mode". The software does run and apparently functions perfectly well, but again has comms problems. Because I think I know better than the experts (ahem!!) I decided to download it anyway and give it a go. However, the latest version of DCX software doesn't support windows 98 (it says). It has a com port and to be honest, I'd rather use this laptop for the DCX as it is redundant and so can sit in a rack drawer with the unit permanently. I have a second laptop, however it's running windows 98. Clearly I don't want to go messing about with a working com port. I have toyed with re-naming the serial adapter COM3 in hardware setup, but it lists COM3 as in use (though I've no idea what it is). When I enter the DCX software I can only select com 3 - not what I want! Clearly it can never find the unit. Unfortunately this unit has nubered itself COM23 (I have bluetooth and infrared ports numbered before that). The first is an Acer reasonably modern one running windows xp, however it has no dedicated RS232 com port, so I'm using a usb serial adapter. I've downloaded the remote software and am trying to "talk" to the unit, but am having issues with 2 different laptops. Having trawled the net tying to convince myself to by one of these units I've finally bitten the bullet and it arrived from cpc today.
